How we tested

Each assistant was queried on its free tier on September 1, 2026, with identical instructions. The main test: a general-audience health question requiring verifiable facts, with an explicit format instruction (answer in 3 sentences). Two things were measured: the accuracy and sourcing of the answer, and instruction-following — a good assistant must do both. Full per-criterion scores are detailed in the sections below.

Perplexity works as a conversational search engine, and our test confirmed it brilliantly. Where other assistants answered in generalities, Perplexity cited 15 verifiable sources and precise figures: a meta-analysis of 75 trials (2024), "1,000 daily steps = -10% depression risk", "7,500 steps = -42% symptoms". No competitor comes close to this level of factual reliability.

Developed by French company Mistral AI, Le Chat delivered 3 perfectly calibrated sentences in our test, with neat visual formatting (bold keywords) and rich content: endorphins, serotonin, dopamine, mental clarity. Its European data hosting is reassuring for GDPR-conscious users and businesses.

• Strengths: perfect instruction-following, clear and structured presentation, European data hosting.
• Weaknesses: less detailed answers than Perplexity or Claude, fewer third-party integrations, smaller ecosystem.

Claude: the best writer (4.4/5)

Claude (Anthropic) produced the most detailed and natural-sounding answers in our comparison: precise scientific references (cortisol, endorphins, circadian rhythm), a human tone, and appreciated features like projects and contextual memory. Its very large context window makes it the best tool for analyzing entire documents — contracts, reports, manuscripts.

But it failed the format instruction, answering in a continuous paragraph instead of 3 sentences.

Gemini, Google's assistant

Gemini produced solid scientific content (endorphins, serotonin, sleep, self-esteem, cognitive functions) and its integration with Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Drive) is a genuine everyday asset. Same limitation as Copilot in our test: the format instruction was not followed — a single paragraph instead of 3 structured sentences. Better for research and the Google ecosystem than for precise writing.
